The most effective vitamins for migraine relief are those that correct mitochondrial function & neurogenic inflammation, block pain receptors, reduce adrenaline levels, and addressing leaky gut.

Neurogenic inflammation:
Migraines are often linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, which impairs oxidative phosphorylation, the process by which cells produce ATP (energy). This energy deficit in brain cells can contribute to migraine attacks. To help correct this imbalance, antioxidants such as Coenzyme Q10 and others can support mitochondrial function and improve ATP production. It is also use for neurogenic inflammation.

Block Pain Receptors:
One key aspect of migraine pathophysiology is the activation of pain receptors in the brain. Reducing or blocking these receptors can help alleviate migraine symptoms. A specific receptor involved is the NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor, which contributes to pain transmission and neuronal excitability. Magnesium plays a critical role by inhibiting NMDA receptor activation, helping to calm overactive nerve signaling and reduce migraine frequency and intensity.

Reduce Adrenaline Levels:
Reducing adrenaline levels can be beneficial for migraine relief. Effective strategies include stress management techniques and limiting or avoiding caffeine intake.

Address Leaky Gut:
Almost all migraines, excluding those caused by tumors, are linked to leaky gut syndrome. In this condition, harmful substances like pathogens, toxins, and food particles (such as gluten) can pass through the intestinal lining and enter the bloodstream, triggering inflammation and migraines.

To support gut healing, it’s important to focus on restoring the gut barrier. This can be done by consuming glutamine-rich foods like cabbage juice or taking L-glutamine supplements to help repair and strengthen the intestinal lining.

One of my favorite doctors, Dr. Alex Vasquez, recommends a combination of B vitamins, Coenzyme Q10, and magnesium as the most effective supplement trio for migraine treatment.
