Plants Used in Homeopathy for Musculoskeletal Problems

Different kinds of plants are used in homeopathy to treat general musculoskeletal problems, specific spinal disorders, and debilitating diseases such as fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Here is the list below:

Arnica, symphytum, and millefolium are some of the plants that can be indicated for general musculoskeletal problems. Arnica is the first remedy for all trauma, shock, muscles, bruises, and soreness before and after exercise. Symphytum also known as comfrey, is indicated for fractures, non-union fractures, concussions, injury to the eye, and pain after amputation. Millefolium, also known as yarrow, is indicated for hemorrhage, internal hemorrhage, and overexertion after surgery or childbirth. Rhus Tox is used for ligaments, blows, sprains, over lifting, stiffness, and tearing pain. Calendula is antiseptic and disinfectant. It is indicated for cuts, scrapes, and bleeding, and speeds healing burns. Aconitum is indicated for eyes, inflammation after surgery, anxiety, shock, and head injuries.

There are plants indicated for specific spinal disorders such as gelsemium, calc. phos., ranunculus, berberis, and hypericum. Gelsemium can be used for a cervical area like bruised pain with an occipital headache. Calc. Phos. can also be used for the cervical area and is indicated for cramping pain alternating sides and heaviness of the head. Ranunculus can be used for thoracic areas such as discomfort from prolonged stooping or overwork. Berberis is a plant used as a remedy for a lumbar area such as pain that radiates to hips, front, and thighs, weak lame, numbness, and kidney problems. Hypericum is another plant used for trauma to the coccyx with nerve pain.

Homeopathy is also useful for debilitating musculoskeletal conditions such as fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Cimicifuga, Kalmia, and Causticum are plants used for fibromyalgia. Cimicifuga plant is used for spasms or large muscles while Rhus tox is used for constant tissue inflammation. Kalmia is indicated for rapidly shifting locations, neuralgic pain, nerve, muscle, and joint inflammation. Causticum can manage very chronic inflammation with contraction, stiffness, tearing, burning, drawing pain restless limbs, and paralysis.

Plants can be used for acute, chronic, and degenerative phases of arthritis. Apis and Bryonia are used for the acute phase of arthritis. Apis is used for burning, stinging, wandering pain, swelling, bursitis, restlessness, tiredness, and fidgety. Bryonia is indicated for stitching pain with inflammation, dreads movement, hot, swollen, puffy, shiny red, and irritable kind of condition. Phytolacca is used for soreness and shooting pain in the chronic inflammatory phase. Causticum is used for stiffness and paralysis in the degenerative phase.
